DESCRIPTION

The BERCO ARB Used Conrod Boring Machine is a machine tool designed to perform boring and grinding operations on engine connecting rods, both new and to be reconditioned, maintaining a constant level of precision over time. The machine configuration is based on two independent operating units: a boring head and a grinding head with planetary movement, both mounted on a rigid structure that integrates the drive motors. One motor is dedicated to the rotation of the grinding wheel, while the other simultaneously manages the rotation of the boring spindle, the movement of the grinding head, the table feed and the operation of the coolant pump.

Between the two heads is positioned the working table, built with dovetail guideways to ensure stability and precision during movement. The motion can be carried out both in automatic and manual mode, with the possibility of micrometric adjustment for finishing operations. The presence of adjustable limit stops allows precise control of the stroke during the automatic cycle, while manual control via handwheel and worm screw system enables accurate intervention during setup or machining.

The connecting rod clamping system is designed to ensure correct positioning with respect to the machining axes. Upper clamping is achieved by means of an expanding mandrel, while a double cone fixture is used on the lower side. Depending on the operation, the connecting rod bore is mounted on the expanding mandrel or reversed. In the case of connecting rods with wrist pin installed, a two-position V-block support is used, with different size supports to accommodate center distances starting from 50 mm, allowing effective centering even on small components.

The machine is equipped with control devices featuring a dial gauge that allows both verification of the connecting rod centering and tool setting with direct indication of the final diameter obtained during boring. This feature reduces operational errors and improves process repeatability, especially in batch processing or reconditioning operations.

From an application standpoint, the BERCO ARB Used Conrod Boring Machine covers a wide range of machining operations, from small engines to truck and tractor engines. With the aid of a specific optional fixture, it can also be used for boring and grinding operations on motorcycle and small engine cylinders.
