Let’s get to know this beautiful engine valve refacer closely.
We are with Mitch Malcolm of Irontite Products Inc. that at the recent Indianapolis PRI 2018 has meticulously illustrated the technical characteristics of this machine.

The Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe engine valve refacer is manufactured in the United States by Irontite Products Inc. since the early 1920s.
Over the years it has undergone numerous changes and transformations, until it assumes the forms we all know today.

Construction features of the Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe

Base and structure

The Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe is made of 2 cast iron blocks that give strength and solidity to the whole structure.
The cast iron base also absorbs the vibrations generated during processing.

The movement of the grinding wheel holder unit is carried out on the dove tail ways, and the wide excursion allows to grind very long valves, up to 15″(385 mm).

Six ball chuck

The six ball chuck system is the main characteristic that makes this engine valve refacer extremely precise and reliable.

The patented Kwik-Way chuck is equipped with two sets of 3 spheres that tighten the valve stem and this allows a perfect concentricity between the stem and the valve head.
This type of 2-point stem support is also called the “Centerless” system.

The valve is tightened by pneumatic action through a locking and release button.
Alternatively, you can also use a convenient pedal that is supplied as an option.

The 6 ball chuck is equipped with variable rotation speed and guarantees the entrainment of valves whose stem has a diameter between Ø 4 and 14 mm.
For larger diameters an optional chuck is available ranging from Ø 11 to 21 mm.

The chuck is in turn mounted on the head which can reach an inclination up to 62°.

Grinding wheel

The Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe centerless valve refacer is equipped with a 7 “(178 mm) grinding wheel for the valve refacing.

The grinding wheel can be easily re-sharpened through the handy retractable wheel dressing diamond.

A second 3″ (76 mm) wheel, is on the side of the machine to allow the machining of the stem and to make the chamfer on the valve stem.

The Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe has a 1 gallon (3.8L) tank to contain the coolant.
Optionally an external 5 gallon tank (18.9 L) is also available.

Valve grinding with the Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe

To reface an engine valve with the Kwik-Way SVS II Deluxe automotive valve grinder, is a simple and precise operation.

First of all we need to set the machining angle we want to give to the valve, and then adjust the valve end stop in order to obtain a series of valves that are all the same.

Then set the rotation speed of the valve and the grinding wheel, simply operate the coolant pump and act on the lever approaching the grinding wheel to the valve.

During the approach the grinding wheel will automatically start the rotationand then stop by itself when we move away from the valve.

To extract the freshly rectified valve, simply press the pneumatic actuation button and the chuck rotation will automatically stop.

A new valve will then be inserted, and once the button is released, the chuck will start running again, ready for a new process.
